BIBLES FOR KENYA
Officially, Christianity in Kenya has existed for more than 150 years, but even so, it’s still nearly impossible to obtain a Bible. There are even pastors who do not have the Holy Scriptures, even though they must teach about the Kingdom of God and the renewal of the mind, give hope and build up faith. The main reason for that is a low status of education and poor living conditions. Even those who are able to read cannot buy a Bible for $10, because that is a monthly wages for an average worker. So, even though there are no restrictions for sales of the Bibles, only a few can afford them.
This problem is especially acute in rural churches. Offerings typically do not exceed $3 and some pastors cannot read and write. It is not uncommon for the Scriptures to be transmitted orally, on the basis of previously heard sermons. There is no Gideon Brotherhood in Kenya. We wrote and called several times to the Gideon Bible Society in South Africa, but no one answered us. Therefore, we want to establish a permanent channel for the entry of Bibles and other Christian literature into the country, so that people can get the Scriptures free of charge in Swahili language.
